U13 cricket team bowl over the opposition

The U13 boys have followed the triumphs of the U13 girls and won the Inner London indoor cricket competition held at The Kia Oval. We entered two teams for the competition, a year 7 team and a year 8 team, but due to the luck of the draw both teams were placed in the same group meaning only one could progress.

Year 7 were up against Kingsdale School in the opening game of the group. Kingsdale scored 36-1 from their 6 overs. Our batsmen didn’t start well but eventually managed to secure a dramatic win, scoring 25 runs from the final 8 balls to win by 5 wickets. Year 8 also won their opening game, beating Chestnut Grove by 5 wickets. Year then beat Platanos College by 5 wickets after restricting them to 18-3 and chased down their total within 3 overs.

The Charter vs Charter match came next with year 7 chosing to bowl first but struggling against the strong year 8 batting line up who went on to score a gigantic 64-3. Year 7 struggled to chase down this total and eventually lost out to Year 8 by 38 runs.

Year 8 then beat Kingsdale and Platanos College in their final group matches to come out on top of the group and qualifying for the final with Year 7 coming a very commendable second in the group.

Charter Year 8 boys faced  Bishop Thomas Grant (BTG) in the final and after winning the toss they put BTG into bat. This proved to be the right decision as they removed BTGs openers in the first over. The boys bowled superbly in the final and were again sharp in the field. Alec Dickson was simply unplayable and bowled a maiden over to restrict BTG to 22-3. Harri Graham and Dylan Ross chased down BTGs total in only 8 balls to win the final by 6 wickets. The Year 8 boys now qualify for the County finals held in Dorking after half-term.
