The English Schools’ FA England Under 15 Girls’ final trial took place this past weekend at Stafford Town FC. Year 10 student,Ruby Hughes, was one of 32 remaining players who participated in a match made up of squads representing the North and South of England.
In spite of the cold, overcast conditions the players took to the field with the intent to showcase their best skills. The match ended a 1-1 draw. Afterwards, the final selection for this season’s Under 15 Girl’s Squad saw Ruby selected to represent her country - the only girl from London in the squad.
Commenting on Ruby’s success, Director of Sport at The Charter School, Maria Chalcraft said:
‘This is an excellent achievement from a dedicated and committed pupil. Ruby has previously won the school's Sports Personality of the Year award for displaying excellence and hard work. Ruby demonstrated fantastic attitude, determination and resilience throughout the trials, and this was rewarded with her first international call up. The PE department are extremely proud of Ruby and excited for the future camps and fixtures.’
The team’s first match will be against the Republic of Ireland on 10 March at Stafford Town FC.
