The Charter School is an outstanding family school that inspires and delivers excellence.
We have been classed as outstanding by Ofsted since 2006.
I feel immensely privileged to be the Headteacher of this unique school which consistently transforms the life chances of the young people of our diverse local community. For proof of our success you need look no further than our students past and present, and we are very proud of their many amazing achievements including brilliant exam results, fantastic sporting achievements, wonderful music performances, entry to the top universities in the country and successful careers as lawyers, doctors, engineers, musicians and artists.
But they could not do this on their own. My magnificent staff supports them with their expertise and enthusiasm. We are also blessed not only with a highly active and supportive parent body but also some wonderful friends in the business, education and medical worlds who work with our young people as mentors, supporters and advisors.
We are proud of our shared vision and strong values, set out as 'The Charter Way' (see below).
As you might expect from a school founded in 2000 – we move with the times. Our vibrant, dynamic and exceptional school community is ideally set to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century, whether that is as one of the few schools teaching Mandarin for over four years, or for our unrivalled programme of events which develop our students’ employability skills and prepare them for the world beyond school.
The Charter School was judged by Ofsted to be outstanding in 2006 and 2009, but we have not rested on our laurels; instead we have worked tirelessly to improve the outcomes for our students still further since that time. Our GCSE results now place us in the top 4% of schools nationally and our A Level results in the top 15%. Not surprisingly, we are sure that when Ofsted return they will judge us to be outstanding again.
However, there is much more to this school than an Ofsted ‘outstanding’ judgement. We believe we are unique in our combination of inclusion and excellence. We are an inclusive and happy family school founded on caring relationships with every child, but we also provide an exceptional academic education, supported by wide-ranging and exceptional sporting, cultural and artistic activities. Moreover, our staff always go ‘the extra mile’ to enable all students to achieve more than they think they are capable of.
‘Our relentless drive for improvement’ noted by Ofsted and commended by many national agencies means that, should your child join us in September 2015, you can be absolutely confident that the school they become part of will have improved again – and will continue to do so throughout their journey with us.
Finally, our goal at The Charter School is a simple one: to enable all students to develop the knowledge, skills and character so that they can be happy in life, and be successful in higher education or the inspiring career pathway of their choice. Every child has different strengths. We guarantee you that we will harness your child’s unique strengths to help them to flourish and develop into a creative, confident and caring citizen who is happy in themselves, excited about learning and ambitious for success.
With very best wishes
Christian Hicks, MA Head teacher
