On Tuesday 7th May, Charter North took on Elmgreen in the South London Cup Final at Dulwich Hamlet FC.

The game started extremely well with Sofiene winning a penalty and Harry slotting the ball away from the spot to make it 1-0. Elmgreen quickly responded by climbing highest from a corner and heading into the roof of the net to make it 1-1.

Sofiene then broke through the defence and calmly slotted the ball in to make it 2-1.Then shortly after Daniel broke down the wing and crossed a great ball into Josh who was able to slot it away to make it 3-1.

After half time the game was very even with both teams creating chances and both keepers making excellent saves. However, it was Elmgreen who were able to take their chance by scoring another goal from a corner, five minutes into added time. Charter North thought they would be able to hang on. However, this time from a corner Elmgreen won a penalty from a supposed push. They were able to score the penalty to make it 3-3 which took us into extra time.

Again, during extra time both teams had glorious chances. However, both goalkeepers stayed firm and made some excellent saves. This took us to penalties to decide the winner.

Both teams missed one penalty in their first five penalties. This took us into sudden death and unfortunately for Charter North, Elmgreen came out victorious as Charter North missed their sixth spot kick after Elmgreen were able to convert theirs.

The Charter North boys represented the school exceptionally well as the boys left it all out on the pitch and showed great resilience, fight and sportsmanship. A huge thank you to Dulwich Hamlet FC for giving us the opportunity to play the final at their ground. Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support the boys and make it an incredible atmosphere.

Congratulations to Elmgreen.
